THE SALON

Our 35th year anniversary of watching the world go by from the much coveted location at the gateway to sophisticated and creative Charlotte Street. Back in 1988 we were extremely lucky to find this wonderful 1930’s Streamline Moderne shop in fashionable Fitzrovia, London W1. with it’s calm, bright atmosphere and original, dual aspect glazing. Andrew transformed it into the light and airy two floor salon that it is today. Our clients always feel totally relaxed either watching the world go by from the discreet privacy of the enchanting ground floor, or they unwind in the exclusive seclusion of the lower ground salon, which also benefits from natural light.

No.1 Charlotte Street has been our home for so long that it truly emanates a homely, peaceful informality.

We love working here.

ANDREW JOSE

AT THE CUTTING EDGE

Andrew has forged an outstanding reputation of many years in the hairdressing business.

Today he is considered one of the world’s leading hair stylists and most acclaimed teachers.

His technique evolved whilst he was Principal of the Vidal Sassoon Schools and Academies in the late 70’s and 80’s… the advent of punk and a new wave of ‘fashion with attitude’ saw geometric principles turned upside down which Andrew re-evaluated, interpreting and teaching them anew. Part of the revolution that created many of the techniques of today; texturising, slide cutting, shattering, weave cut, disconnection and flying colours ‘Balayage’ to name but a few.

Opening his own business in 1988 and in 1990 winning the Wella Vogue Salon of the year. Andrew created the looks for many models and celebrities being crowned Brit pop hairdresser in the 90s with many of the then bands coming to the salon.

Andrew has been nominated six times as British Hairdresser of the Year.

His approached is Individual -personal and his mantra to team make hair look expensive!

His signature style was recognised by the influential Creative Head and Sunday Times Magazine, giving his Jean Paul Goude inspired Paris Hairdressing Collection photographed by Tim Brett Day, both the front cover and six pages.
His many Photo credits include collaborations with Clive Arrowsmith How to Spend it-Ellen von Unwerth- Patrick Demarchelier both for the Elite Model Look world wide model competition as lead stylist.

His consumer book ‘ Love your Hair ‘ Published by Thorsons-Harper Collins sold 100,000 copies.

Today Andrew can often be found hands-on in his London salon,On stage as an Ambassador for Revlon professional and doing session work creating hairdressing techniques and collections for hairdressers around the world.

THE LONDON ACADEMY

The London Academy actually predates the salon opening in 1988.  First situated in the Worlds end Kings road Chelsea next door but one to the iconic Vivienne Westwood shop then becoming a touring team creating many of the cutting techniques widely  used in  salons today.

Perhaps the one of most long lasting ideas was the use of straightening irons on Caucasian hair and the cutting of haircuts and wigs for the clubbing and UK music scene in the 90s and 2000s.

Today  the Andrew Jose London Academy continues to create bi-annual hairdressing images and education techniques. The photographic collections are showcased and taught at the London Academy in Charlotte street and distributed to hairdressers and salons in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan and UK.

We have two London Academy courses and a members club.
